ON PAGE KEYWORD RANKING FACTORS

Whether you are advertising on Google or not, on page keyword ranking factors are important criteria for Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, others).

In a perfect world, the best seo practice for on page keyword ranking would be to do exactly what Google’s algorithm considers essential.

But, of course, that’s the rub.

You see, while it is commonly believed that Google employs more than 200 criteria for page ranking, it’s one of the most closely guarded secrets in business---like the formula for Coca Cola.

But, we do know some of the factors.

Google Search Optimization: Factors

ü  On page factors involving keywords

ü  On page factors that do not involve keywords

ü  Web page specific (URL) link popularity factors

ü  Website (site wide) factors involving links

ü  Website factors that do not involve links

ü  Negative ranking factors

Top 10 Rules for On Page Keyword Google Search Optimization

1.  Always Use the Keyword in the Title Tag

The Title Tag is one of the most important factors for high ranking in search engine search results.

The title tag is the 50 or so words you always see when a web page is displayed on a search engine’s results page (SERP).

In the screenshot just above, notice how the title tag “red beans and rice” is used by the webmasters who have made it to the top of Google:

·         The title tag is in the headline (good)

·         The title tag is in the headline and body of the description (better)

·         Sometimes, it’s put into the headline, the description, and the page URL (best seo optimization practice)

·         And, Google loves the keyword in the title tag so much it highlights it for readers!

Tip:  Put the keyword into the Title Tag of every web page (URL) on your site.  For any pages you have already built, edit them to ensure that the keyword is there.  You might quickly jump up in rankings simply by doing this!

 2.  Put the Keyword at the Front of the Title Tag

If you are promoting a business, by all means put the company name in the title tag and place it ireferably in the beginning of the tag.

3.  For a New Website, Always Put the Keyword in the Domain Name

If you already have a website and the keyword isn’t in the domain name, well. . . join the club of millions and millions who didn’t know this rule, either.

But, on your next website, get a domain name with the keyword in it (try to stick to .com extensions).  If the keyword has already been used in a domain, get creative.  For example, suppose your website is about dog training.  Unsurprisingly, dogtraining.com is taken, but look for domains with prefixes or suffixes like this:

bestdogtraining.com

best-dogtraining.com

dogtrainingonline.com

dogtraining-online.com

Just remember: on every new website you build, get a domain name with your keyword in it.

4.  Got a subdomain?  Always Put the Keyword in its Subdomain Name

dogtraining.domainname.com

5.  Always Put the Keyword in the Web Page Name (URL)

http://www.domainname.com/dogtraining.html

6.  Always Put the Keyword in the Headline (H1) Tag

7.  Always Put the Keyword in an Internal Link Anchor Text on the Page

This is so easy to do yet few “webmasters” understand that this is one of the most important keyword ranking factors.

Tip:  I always put the internal link anchor text with the keyword at the end of the web page.  For example, scroll to the bottom of the page you are looking at and you’ll see “Go from On Page Keyword Ranking Factors to Keywords main page.”

Easy, huh?

8.  Put the Keyword in an External Link Anchor Text on the Page (if you are linking to a third party website)

Search engines don’t only look for back links to your site; they reward you for relevant links to external sites, particularly when you use anchor text.

For example, here’s a link Google loves about keyword ranking factors. Notice the anchor text.

9.  Always Put Your Keyword in the First 50 Words on Your Web Page

Better yet, try to put it in the first 125 letters or so.

10.  What About Meta Tags?  Google says it does not consider keywords in Meta Tags as one of its keyword ranking factors.

Maybe--but there's no harm in doing so, is there?

Remember: whether you are advertising with Google or simply relying on organic (free) traffic, each of your pages should be keyword optimized for optimal results.

Apply the top 10 Search Engine Optimization rule to every web page you build and your rankings will increase, sometimes vaulting you over your competitors (most of which have no idea what "SEO" even stands for).

It's simply the best SEO practice---and so darned easy!
